Anthologie par Jean Nouvel

Jusqu'au 26 octobre 2008, la Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain présente une exposition majeure consacrée à l’artiste César, dix ans après sa disparition. Jean Nouvel, en tant qu’architecte du bâtiment de la Fondation Cartier et ami du sculpteur, a été invité à choisir les œuvres et à les mettre en scène, portant un regard nouveau sur l’œuvre de ce sculpteur qui n’a cessé d’explorer les possibilités formelles et expressives offertes par les matériaux industriels. À travers cette exposition, la Fondation Cartier rend hommage à un artiste avec qui elle a collaboré pendant près de quinze ans, depuis 1984 jusqu’à sa disparition en 1998.

Until October 26, the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain presents a major exhibition of the work of French sculptor César on the tenth anniversary of his death. Jean Nouvel - the Fondation Cartier’s architect and a close friend of the artist - has been invited to select the works as well as design their presentation, thus offering a fresh perspective on the work of an artist who passionately explored the formal and expressive possibilities of industrial materials. Through this exhibition, the Fondation Cartier will celebrate an artist who played a major role in its history, from its inception in 1984 until his death in 1998.
